The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued a proposed rule— Medicaid Fiscal Accountability Regulation (CMS-2393-P)—that aims to reduce California’s Medicaid funding, exacerbate provider shortages and undermine patient access to medical care. The proposal limits the funding states can put up to receive federal matching funds and does not establish clear standards by which future state Medicaid funding will be reviewed.
The California Medical Association (CMA) is urging physicians to comment NOW and urge CMS to rescind the proposed rule. Comments are due February 1, 2020.
CMA has prepared a sample letter but urges the inclusion of personal comments about the negative impact this proposed rule could have on patients, practices, and access to care in the community.
