Partnership HealthPlan of California (PHC) has awarded $8.5 million in grants to expand and strengthen the state’s physician workforce. The funding supports new residency slots, physician training programs, and initiatives designed to improve access to care in underserved communities.
The grant program, backed by PHC’s board and supported by the California Medical Association, aims to tackle longstanding physician shortages by helping clinics, hospitals, and academic partners build sustainable training pipelines. These investments will help bring more primary care and specialty physicians into the communities that need them most.
CMA leaders praised the grants as a critical step toward ensuring California has a stable, diverse, and well-trained future workforce.
