A new survey of 100 hospital CFOs, finance VPs, and clinical technology leaders, conducted by Becker’s Healthcare and Net Health, highlights how health systems are turning to technology to weather regulatory uncertainty and shifting reimbursement models.

Key findings:

  • Regulatory uncertainty: 42% of leaders are cautiously optimistic about federal reimbursement changes, but concerns remain over data privacy (28%), value-based care adoption (27%), and interoperability mandates (26%).

  • AI adoption: Nearly half (49%) view AI and analytics as solutions for enhancing reimbursement efficiency and ROI, although many remain cautious until clear and safe returns are proven.

  • Payer integration gaps: While 48% report full payer integration, a majority (52%) say their systems are only partially connected with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurers, leaving billing and compliance vulnerable.

The findings underscore that health systems are increasingly viewing AI, revenue cycle management tools, and EHR modernization as essential investments to reduce denials, ensure compliance, and enhance financial resilience.

“In a time of regulatory uncertainty, health system leaders are making strategic decisions to prioritize economic efficiency,” said Francesca Vereb, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Net Health.
